Enhance Your Swim Training with FORM Goggles

I must admit, I was a bit skeptical of FORM smart goggles, until I gave them a try for myself. But I’ve used them several times in the past few weeks now and have really enjoyed them! There a few key areas in which they bring a lot of value:

  • Technique – The goggles can help you hone your technique in a few key areas:

    • Head pitch – See your head position angle in real time and/or on average so you can work to improve

    • Peak head roll – Understand how far you are pulling your head out of the water when breathing in real time and/or on average, so you can try to be more efficient

    • Time to neutral – See how long it is taking you to complete your breath and bring your head back to the neutral position, the faster the better!

    • Distance per stroke – Understand how much distance you are getting out of each stroke and how it changes during your workout as you fatigue. This can be a sign that more endurance is needed to hold your technique together.

    • Stroke rate – See your cadence in real time and/or on average.

    • Analyze your swim after the fact in the app or export the workout details to a spreadsheet to see the specifics for every length you swam

  • Pacing – You can see your pace in real time and/or at every turn in the pool to better understand your pacing trends and if you tend to fade as the interval progresses. Most swimmers tend to get slower throughout an endurance set, and awareness can help you learn better pacing.

  • Heart rate tracking – You can see your heart rate in real time and/or at every turn to better associate your perceived exertion with how hard your cardiovascular system is working.

  • Ditch the watch – The goggles automatically know when you are swimming or resting, so you don’t even need to wear a watch to stay on track. Not only that, but the swim and rest intervals are far more accurate than pushing the lap button on your watch!

  • Training Peaks integration – Your completed workouts and data will push into Training Peaks, giving a more accurate representation of your Training Stress Score (TSS)

  • Swim straight feature – A built-in compass can help you swim in a straight line in the open water (premium feature)
